I had such a great day!!
I met Ginger at the appliance place where her BF works. I was able to pick out AND BUY the appliances for my new kitchen, yeah! I bought a side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator, with ice & Pur water in door; a gas cooktop, 4 burners; a 30" built-in single convection oven; a microwave that will be on top of the oven (same cabinet); and a dishwasher. They are not all the same brands, but I sure got a great deal, and they are all white like I want.

The other great thing is after her and I half cleaned the garage, hubby ordered the new garage door to be installed next Wed. The appliances will get delivered sometime soon, and will have a clean location. Ginger's coming back to help clean more of the garage, so the appliances have a home while waiting for the cabinets, and the contractor's work. I designed my own kitchen with my new software, so now that I ordered appliances, I have real dimensions to design the real cabinets, yeah!

What I found when I looked up the earthquake of July, 1952, was it was 6.6, and it was in Kern County, north of Los Angeles. It was compared to the Long Beach quake in 1933, there is pictures in our historical books about that damage. They also compared the 1906 quake with the 1952 one. I can compare the Sylmar quake in Feb, 1971. That one felt like a giant was holding the house and shaking it back & forth. So if I was comparing baby crib rolling to giant shaking a house, or Hulk shaking the house, they all feel about the same.

OK, that said, I felt the earthquake recently before it even started rolling, not the one where Bryan got under his desk in his suit, the one before on a Sunday. I was sitting in the recliner, felt something rumble on the chair like a loud music, or that the cat jumped on my chair. Neither of that happened so I said out loud, "I think we're having an earthquake." Then it started swaying, chandelier swinging, dogs barking, Hubby saying "Yep, we're having an earthquake."

Now for you people who live in parts of the country, that get Tornadoes and Hurricanes, at least you are warned, and can drive away. Us'ens who get earthquakes stay where we're at, dive thru doorways, under tables, but not get away. I think Hurricanes are scarier, but at least you can gather important people and belongings, put boards on windows, and leave.

How about those poor, rich people in Laguna. I'm sorry, but did you not hear about "building your house upon a rock?"

How cute, Kandy edited my profile and put my baby picture on my blog. Thanks Kandy! The story behind the picture: I was born in Youngstown, Ohio, then my mom got blood clots and was in bed for 6 weeks after I was born. My dad took care of me, diapered (the cloth ones). Then when I was 8 months old we drove to California, following my Uncle John (mom's bro)and Aunt Tudy, and their 2 girls. So this photo was taken in North Hollywood, CA in front yard of the apartment we ALL stayed in.

Two months later I experienced my first Earthquake!! Yes I remember the earthquake! My crib was rolling back & forth, the Venetian blinds were hitting the window across the room from my crib, there was some kind of flash of light outside. Now most times when I tell this earthquake episode, everyone wants to tell me their earthquake stories. But I think the amazing thing to say is that I was only 10 months old, and can recall these details! My mom said she never described the room to me. Ok, your turn, tell me your youngest age that you remember a disaster. I'm looking up the newspaper article called "Earthquake!" dated July, 1952. (Now you know my age, which I'm proud to be a Red-Hatter).

Today, I went to work to plan my own kitchen cabinets. There sure is alot of desisions to make on cabinet sizes and configurations! And don't forget those fillers, moldings, appliances the correct size. "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can," design my kitchen. It needs to get designed now so, we can buy appliances, get the contractor here, demolish; all before college starts back Aug 22. The cabinet place wants me to work tomrrow, observe how to close deals, make appointments with clients who come into the store. AAnd it's SIL birthday, so we will go there too.

Well, Ginger and I went thru the garage for 5 hours today. Ok, children it's time to come get your old school stuff. I could take photos of it all (a half box for each of 5 children.) See what we're trying to do is move stuff back 10 feet from the garage door to have a new door installed.

I knew a lot of junque was the boxes that other people helped me clean, and we put the stuff that was taking up room in the house, out to the garage. And of course I didn't want to get rid of my darling's big paper projects that are so cute and sentimental, and their handwriting is so precious. Especially watching how they tried to spell our 12 letter last name! Now FLYLADY.net would have a solution for this dilema, I just need to read or ask her what she would do with old school projects.

The good thing is that I found some long lost photos of when we had 3 children, the same 3 who have blogs. One pix of baby Bryan, all 10 lbs of him! I'll scan them to see if I can show you online. I think they were taken at Knott's Berry Farm.

Yeah, my family does read my blog, thanks guys!!

It's almost Father's day, what shall we get for your Dad? Please NO Harbor Freight! I'm so tired of him buying useless tools that he just keeps in bags. I'm really trying to keep the house clean.

Ginger (my house cleaning guru) and I are going to trudge out to the garage and attempt some semblence of order. "Give away, throw away, and put away" is a quote I learned long ago, but haven't always followed. Ok, here's why I don't like housework... I would rather do something creative that lasts instead of stupid dishes that keep appearing everyday. Wait, Grandma has been helping with the dishes lately, Praise God!

Oh no, no more excuses! I'm on anti-depressants, Grandma helps me, Hubby seems funny (I can tolerate his sarcasim better), I have a job, my kids love me, I have 2 best friends, I had a great visit with my oldest DD, I get to see my grandkids whenever I want!!!! Ok, I am very grateful, thank you Lord for all my blessings! Bless people I meet, help me be a Blessing, Amen.

I just tried to go onto "Gates of Eden" for Karlene, and it links me to the "dark side of Eden", that is not what I wanted linked! Help!

I read my son's blog, "No soup for you" http://theforceisstrongwiththisone.blogspot.com/, to link him on my blog will need a little help from "Kandy's Dish" or "Gates of Eden", if they read their mom's blog. Well, I still want to publish photos. I think I emailed photos to the girls.

Hello, my blogger buddies!

I've been RIP for almost a year. I read Kandy's Dish often and ">Gates of Eden, both my daughters. I find out how Kandy is doing by reading her blog, she is quite an interesting, creative person! Karlene is out right funny telling us her boys' antics and sayings. My 3 sons are also great, 2 are married to wonderful ladies. I feel so blessed to have 5 adult children who still like each other! You can see the photos on Kandy's blog.

Well to catch up from last July, I have completed 2 more semesters at college. I've learned what some of my limits are in school, and trying to balance home life. I found out that some of my anger outbursts are from depression, and now I need a mild anti-depressant. I resisted medication until now because I was a product of the 1960's and wanted to be one of the few people who did NOT choose drugs! Hey, I had my children with natural child birth.

We are going to remodel the kitchen this summer, if all goes well, Lord willing, and the creek don't rise. I started working at a kitchen cabinet place. The way I got the job is quite a GOD thing! I walked into the cabinet place as research for my class, and to look at his cabinets for my kitchen. As soon as I said those words, the manager asked if I wanted a job? My mouth went open, stuttered out a YYess. 3 weeks later (last week) I started working, after I bought a lap-top. Aaand I get my cabinets for half off! Pretty good deal!

Talk to soon, Rae
